Why I Offer Bookkeeping and Financial Coaching
After about one year of financial coaching, I decided to launch a bookkeeping offering.
As a financial coach, I help my clients clarify their goals and navigate financial challenges all while limiting beliefs surrounding self-worth, money, and wealth rise to the surface. This work is so gratifying because I get to help people see the root of their unhealthy patterns with money and liberate themselves from the vicious hamster wheel of suffering.
Oftentimes as we begin work, I hear my clients have concerns around their budget or paying off debt. While I could easily tell them a fast track solution to say getting out of credit card debt, that would only solve half of the problem. It wouldn’t address how the debt got there in the first place. My endless curiosity always makes me wonder, why? While the obvious answer is explainable - spending more than you are earning - the real driver for that behavior may be more complex.
Uncovering the true reasoning behind people’s financial behavior is my passion. And I love the interplay between our inner psyche and the way we orient ourselves to our environment using money.
Being able to support someone holistically requires an all encompassing perspective. This means that doing inner child meditations that reveal a money block are not all it takes to pay off your credit card debt. It also requires using your newfound perspective to make smarter financial decisions that will increase your credit score.
So this brings me to bookkeeping: the process of keeping record of all transactions for a business.
Typically a business owner hires a bookkeeper to ensure their business financials are accurate and tax ready. However, bookkeepers can also help with managing inventory, navigating sales tax, and assisting with employee payroll.
This may at first glance have little to do with any person’s beliefs around money, but indeed it is all related. On the surface, bookkeeping is about proper data entry and reconciliation. It is a career that could even fall prey to AI in the coming years. And yet, the value of organized and understandable financial statements for business owners cannot be understated.
Even if a person is looking at financial information, they may not understand how to make sense of this information. They may not understand how to scrutinize the data and sense if there are any errors occurring on the back end. In the worst case scenario, a bookkeeper is in the prime position to steal from the company by manipulating the numbers.
Being able to trust a financial professional is nearly as valuable as being able to trust yourself.
And this is a key reason why I wanted to integrate bookkeeping into my financial coaching practice. As my clients get closer to inner peace and inner sovereignty they must confront the areas in which they have been relying on others to fix their problems.
I want my clients to feel confident around their personal finances AND their business finances because they go hand in hand. This confidence requires a degree of personal empowerment and financial education that is entirely unique to the individual. Understanding the bookkeeping process and being able to interpret financial reports is critical for business owners who want to self-actualize.
The challenge I see with lots of business owners is a level of general overwhelm when it comes to bookkeeping on their own. They might not know how to handle roadblocks when they face them. They might not know how to interpret their financial statements. They don’t know what they don’t know and that unknown scares them.
The key with my work is I serve as an experienced guide who can provide the answer to get you one step closer to where you want to go. You don’t have to swim in articles and trainings on your own to learn. What makes me unique is that I ensure you work alongside me, so you don’t have to rely on me forever. Clients receive education on how to use bookkeeping software and how financial reports are compiled.
I find that financial coaching and bookkeeping go hand in hand because there’s so much more to bookkeeping than financial reporting. Business owners who have a solid understanding of how their business works inside and out will feel more empowered to expand and grow their business. And the process of doing bookkeeping with me offers the opportunity for business owners to face their fears and stressors with someone who is compassionate and understanding.
